Work you can open and click through

Web design portfolio Cavan from Ceol Digital

This is the client work behind the rest of this site: Shopify stores, WooCommerce shops and WordPress sites built by Ceol Digital from Cavan. Every build listed here is live and still trading on the code we wrote. The notes are deliberately blunt, because a portfolio is only useful if it tells you what the job involved rather than how it looked on launch day. If one of these builds looks like your situation, that is the best place to start.

  • Live sites, not screenshots
  • Still trading on the same build
  • Notes on what the job involved

Open the sites and judge for yourselfPublic builds you can click through, not mockups on a slide.

A gallery of screenshots proves very little on its own. Any agency can show a tidy homepage. What matters is whether the site still works years later, whether the owner can update it without help and whether it sells anything. So this page is organised around those questions: what the client needed, what we built and what happened afterwards. Where a build is public, we point you at it so you can judge the speed and the checkout for yourself. Screenshots are cheap. Sites that still work five years later are not.

The work shown on this page

The projects fall into three groups, and each group starts from a different problem. Retailers who needed a shop able to carry a growing catalogue. Businesses that needed a website their own staff could run without a developer. Firms that already had a site but needed it rebuilt on a foundation that would last. This is not the whole client list. Plenty of our work sits behind a login or under an agreement the client would rather keep private, and that is a limit we would rather state than paper over with stock imagery. What appears here appears because the client is content to be shown.

The builds we can point to in the open are these:

Grease Monkey Direct

A parts and equipment store on Shopify. Large catalogue, fitment details and filtering built around the way trade customers actually place a repeat order.

TruckElectrics

A Shopify store for vehicle electrical parts, built for buyers who already know the part number and want to reach it in as few steps as possible.

Elegant Gems

A jewellery shop on WooCommerce, where product presentation and trust carry the sale. High value items need clear terms as much as good photographs.

Luso Restaurant

A restaurant site built to show the menu, the room and the booking route without making a diner hunt for any of the three.

We do not publish a project we cannot stand behind, and we do not list a client who would rather not be named. If you want to see work closer to your own sector, ask, and we will tell you honestly whether we have any.

How to read a portfolio properly

When you look at any agency’s portfolio, including this one, ask three questions. Does the site load quickly on your phone, right now, on a real connection? Can you find the price, the delivery terms or the way to make contact within a few seconds? And does the site look as though it was made for that business, or like a template with their logo in the corner? Those three tests tell you more about build quality than any case study written after the fact. None of them needs an expert eye, only a phone and a minute.

The other question worth asking is who maintains the site now. Plenty of portfolios show work the agency no longer touches, and we would rather be straight about which of ours we still look after and which the client has taken in house. A site is not a finished object anyway. It needs updates, speed checks and content changes, and the firm that built it should be able to tell you what it needs next without being asked. Agency work does not end at launch, and a portfolio should not pretend otherwise.

The part you cannot see in a screenshot

Behind every site on this page sits the same order of work. It is unglamorous and it is the reason those sites are still running. None of it is visible when you click through a finished page, which is rather the point. The sequence does not change: brief, pages, content, build, handover, in that order.

1

Start with the brief

What the business sells, who buys it and what the site has to make happen. We write that down before anything is designed.

2

Plan the pages

Pages, navigation and the route to an enquiry or a sale mapped out and agreed with the client before a designer opens a single file.

3

Design against real content

Layouts built around the words and the products the client actually has, not placeholder text that hides the awkward bits.

4

Build the pages

The site built, then tested on the phones and browsers real customers use, with speed measured rather than assumed. Anything that fails is fixed before launch rather than after a complaint.

5

Hand over and stay

Training, documentation and a written list of what the site will need over the year ahead.

Questions about our web design work

Are these all the sites you have built?

No. The client base is larger than this page shows, because some work is under an agreement that keeps it private and some clients prefer not to be listed. What you see is the portion we can point to publicly. Ask about your sector and we will tell you plainly what we have done in it.

Can I speak to a client you built for?

Sometimes, when the client is willing. Plenty are happy to answer a short question or two from a business considering similar work. We will ask on your behalf and come back with a straight yes or no rather than promising a reference we cannot deliver.

Is the work shown here recent?

The sites on this page are live now, which is the test that matters most. Some have been running for years and have been updated several times since launch. We would rather show a site that has aged well than a launch day screenshot with the paint still wet.

Can you show work in my industry?

Ask and we will tell you honestly. We have built for retail, trade suppliers, hospitality and professional services, among others. If we have not worked in your sector we will say so and describe the closest thing we have, rather than pretending the fit is better than it is.

Do you only build new sites, or do you take over existing ones?

Both. Several of the builds here began as a rebuild of a site somebody else made. Taking over an existing site is often faster and cheaper than starting again, and we will tell you which of the two your site needs after a look at it.

What to look for in an agency, including us

A good fit

This page suits a buyer who wants evidence before a conversation. If you would rather click through live sites, check how quickly they load and see whether work holds up away from a case study, that is exactly why these builds stay listed. It also suits a business that wants one firm for the design, the build and the work afterwards, so nothing has to be handed between suppliers later on. Buying on evidence is slower, and usually cheaper over the life of the site. A shortlist of two or three agencies judged on evidence beats a long list judged on price.

Look elsewhere

If you have not yet settled on the kind of site you need, the website design service sets out the range in more detail. When the brief is specific enough that no theme will carry it, custom web design explains how that gets scoped. For the commercial side of the work, the web agency describes how a build and the ongoing care fit together. The team behind all of it is the website design agency, and where a project needs an identity built from scratch, the brand design agency handles that part. If a build here is close to what you need, that is the shortest conversation of all.

Ask us about the work

Tell us which project on this page looks closest to what you have in mind and we will talk you through what it took to build. We are as happy to talk about a project we did not build. Call +353863487761 or use the contact page.

The work is public so you can judge it yourself rather than take our word for it, and judge the work rather than the pitch. Start from the back to Ceol Digital’s homepage, or call us on +353863487761 to talk about a project like one of these.
